Newbie here

This is my first time blogging so please forgive me if it seems like I don't know what I'm doing.  I am currently a graduate student studying nutrition in hopes to pursue a career as a registered dietitian.  I spent a good number of years contemplating on what I wanted to do after receiving my bachelor's degree in biology and realized I love to talk about food, so going back to school to study nutrition was an easy decision.  I've discovered numerous volunteer opportunities while in grad school, one of which allowed me to travel to Nicaragua in order to provide nutrition interventions in a rural community and it is also the primary reason I wanted to open up a blog.  It was the most rewarding and insightful experience I have ever done so far.  If you did not know, Nicaragua is the poorest country in Central America.  Women become accustom to sedentary lifestyles increasing the risk of developing chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. while children become malnourished.  As you can imagine, I was ecstatic to learn about this once in a lifetime opportunity, which, by the way, was an aspiration I wanted to accomplish but never thought would materialize.  Life sure does has its way of surprising you.  I wanted to open up this blog in order to document what me and my fellow classmates did during the week we were in Nicaragua, so stay tuned for my next post....
